What makes the perfect jacket?
While everyone has their own preferences, especially in terms of style, there are some things that everyone still considers when it comes to buying a jacket. Some jackets are bit pricey, true, but considering a jacket is a good investment piece, you need to consider how it would be like on the long run. You don’t want to purchase the first one that catches your eye. No, you need to see check its material or if it’s a good fit. What you think is a good item from the get-go may end up being a disappointment and a waste of money. It might take some time, and visits to a ton of stores before you find the one for you. Here are some things to consider when buying a jacket.
1. Style
As mentioned in the beginning, style is heavily subjective. It’s all a matter of preference. There are different types of jackets to choose from – tons, actually. From denim to leather to varsity to bomber, there’s almost an endless array to choose from. Jackets nowadays come in wide range of designs and an even wider range of colors. Some people like it plain and simple – monochromatic, even. Others prefer a more eye-catching piece. Now that you’ve seen the style you like, let’s move on to the second item.
2. Comfort/Fit
While you want to look stylish, you also want a jacket that fits perfect. Since a jacket is outerwear, make sure that there’s enough room inside it for whatever you’re wearing underneath. There should also be enough space in the neck, shoulders, arms, and torso area for comfortable movement. If you button the jacket, it shouldn’t feel too tight. This is why, as much as possible, you should fit a jacket before purchasing it.
3. Material/Durability
Denim, leather, khaki, satin, tweed, fleece – these are just a few of the many jacket materials you can choose from. While these may also be a matter of style and comfort, you have to make sure the materials used for your chosen jacket is high-quality, and can last you for a long time. Ideally, it should even last you a good few years. Sometimes zippers break off, but they are easy to reattach. The jacket, however, should still remain in good condition. Cheap materials easily fade, peel, and rip, so it’s best to go for a jacket that’s worth its price instead of settling for less.
4. Function
Here is a question that needs answering: what do you need the jacket for? If you’re simply looking for something casual to wear anytime and anywhere, a hoodie or varsity jacket might do. There are jackets you can use for sports, training, and other physical activities, as well as jackets you can use to match your business attire. There are also jackets – a parka, for example – that come in types that are available for the winter or rainy season. One with a cotton collar would be perfect for winter. Some jackets are all-around, and can be used anytime of the year. Style is definitely important, but if you’re looking to invest in a jacket, you also need to figure out its function.
